Fishing with the boys: a gorgeous outdoors layout

Good morning!  It's a beautiful summer weekend, and I hope you have something wonderful and outdoorsy planned.
We have something wonderful and outdoorsy to share today - inspiration for those photos you take this weekend, or anytime this summer!

Kathy Mosher created this one with our July Tracey's Artful Adventure kit and add ons.  Here's what she had to say about it:

I have another layout to share using the Scraps of Darkness July Kit "Tracey's Artful Adventure".  This layout (lo) was a real challenge, and took me more time than I wanted it to, but I'm happy with the results and that I didn't rush too much.  It's a photo of my son, Patrick and my 2 grandsons Chase and Cameron (ages 6 and 4).  The photo was taken down on the Kenai Peninsula, which is where all the fish are.  It was the first time that Uncle Pat took the boys out.  Patrick is an avid Alaskan fisherman.  He should be, he's been doing it since he could walk!
I used Kaisercraft's "Scrap Yard" collection and wonderful script tissue paper, which were included in the kit.  I matted the photos with Bo Bunny's "Mama-Razzi" from an older SOD kit.  The 2 collections really seemed to work well together.

Then I tore the sheets of paper into a design for the background.  As you can see from the photos below, I did a lot of texture (white design) using modeling paste and a stencil.  Next I stamped like crazy using the cutest stamp from Prima / Finnabair, which was also included in the kit.  Too much fun!

After I layered and matted the photos, I created a little circle out of some florals from the local craft store to put behind the left photo.  I used some moss and lichen as embellishments along with the beautiful Prima Allure Reina flower which was included in the Floral Add-On for the kit.  I had to add some little beads to the flower and moss to add a little sparkle!  The title is actually the bottom strip of the paper.

I just love this layout, I think Kathy's achieved perfection with it, she's brought the feeling and elements of the photos right out onto the layout.

I hope you enjoyed Kathy's layout, and if you'd like to pick up one of these kits for yourself, you can find it in the Scraps of Darkness Kits section of our store.

  1. Kathy - this wonderful page made me smile. I love the photo with your two grandsons in their cute boots holding their fishing gear and the next photo - they're off to catch the "big one." Your layout is just beautiful and all of your details always make it seem like I'm looking out my window at a real "live" scene! As always, I love your page.
