Shabby Chic Mixed Media Tags: A Tutorial

Good morning, we have a wonderful new video tutorial to share with you today, by Stéphanie Papin.

Stéphanie created these gorgeous contrasting black and white tags, accented in teal blues, with the May Scraps of Elegance kit, Belle Journée, as well as the Creativity and Color Add Ons from May.

I'll share her video (which is amazing!) first, and then a few words from Stéphanie and more photos.

Here's what she said about these stunning tags:

"It's a mixed media work based on the use of the black & white gesso, included in the Creativity add-on. The Gesso are the base of the work, and I use the colors in the kit to add color on the gesso. For both tags, i used the same colors; the result is different depending if the base is white gesso or black gesso. It is interesting to see how colors react according to the choice of gesso.
Most of the products i used here are included in these May kits and it was also interesting to work with  these Finnabair Brushes.  It's very easy to create texture with this tool, you get an interesting texture on the papers: the depth is much greater than with the use of a stencil with the modeling paste. I enjoy working with that brush!

My favorite products this month are this Prima Finnabair texture brushes set and the WOW embossing powder ('Atlantic Seaspray') : this powder is magical, because there are different tones, there isn't a uniform color, this embossing powder is different than the others that I've used before, it was a beautiful discovery!
I hope you enjoy the result and the video, thank you in advance for watching!"

And here are close-ups on these tags, you can see the amazing detail...

Be sure to stop back tomorrow for more great weekend creating inspiration, and have a beautiful weekend!

Prima Oil Pastels Tutorial: Mixed Media Portrait

Just a few more hours until the weekend starts, and we've got some great inspiration for you today...

Stéphanie has done a wonderful new video tutorial, she is working with the Prima Oil Pastels that were included in our April Scraps of Elegance Creativity Add On:

Here is Stéphanie's tutorial:

And here's what she says about this stunning project:

I am today back with a new project, and for me, a new experience! Here is the result of my work done with the April kit, 'WONDERFUL', from SCRAPS OF ELEGANCE . Here, for my second tutorial with this kit, I used the PRIMA MARKETING oil pastels that were included in the Creativity add-on. First of all , i must say, it was a long time I had heard of this kind of product, Rather I was already very very interested in this product, purpose up to a few days I had never used oil pastels ... So I was glad to discover the product in the April kit! a real challenge for me! This was a new opportunity to push my limits, a challenge ... well, I do not really know if the result is Satisfactory, I do not-have enough experience, and am not objective at all! I hope you tell me what you think of this first exercise!

Here is the "beast" to tame:

and a few photos, close-ups of this project.
I would just say finally this exercise was rather interesting , and I would like to experience again soon and I think fairly quickly.  The ideas are already there!

Thanks so much for stopping by today, have a beautiful weekend!

Salvaged Beauty

I am a firm believer in "reduce and reuse".  I try to live by those words, so I am especially happy to be sharing Stéphanie's newest mixed media tutorial with our January Adore kit:

Altered chocolate box by Stephanie Papin
Stéphanie says:  "this project is made from  a chocolate box at the basis! This is a way  to  use simple things at home; Sometimes, you  just  need to have more imagination, and then, let's play the fun with papers, inks and mediums. I used the main kit, the Creativity add on and  the Floral  add on."

Here's the Youtube video, showing her process:

And a few close-ups of this beautiful canvas:

Instead of ending up in a landfill, this ordinary bit of packaging was transformed into something beautiful, for display in the home, and Stéphanie got to have some fun in the process! I hope it will inspire you to take a second look at that item you thought was trash, and imagine a way to re-use it and have fun doing so!
