Meet our newest Designers!

Our Design Team Call ended on April 15, and wow did we get some amazing entries,  I'd like to thank everybody who applied!

In the end, we had to narrow it down to just 3 talented designers, and while it was a hard decision, I think you'll agree that these ladies will provide lots of inspiration!

I'll introduce our new Scraps of Elegance designer first, and then I'll let you in on the newest Scraps of Darkness designers:

Our new Scraps of Elegance designer is Helena Johansson:

My name is Helena Johansson and I live in Sweden with my dh Martin and our two children, Timmie 10 years old and Linn 6 years old. We also have two cute cats that we all adore - most of the time that is! I'm a socialworker by day and scrapbooker by night, I spend lots of time in my scraproom creating and I often have my little daughter as company. She loves to scrapbook, too (she loves to shop and hoard too, I can't imagine where she got that from!). I've been scrapbooking for more than four years now and I often say it's my passion in life! I love everything romantic, shabby and vintage. I adore beautiful papers, flowers, chipboard and other embellies. I am so happy to be a part of the Scraps of Elegance design team and can't wait to get to know everybody and start to create with these amazing kits!

And we have 2 new designers that will be working with our Scraps of Darkness kits, too:

Elena Olinevich - Designer

My name is Elena a.k.a. Eleele in virtual life. I'm very happy and proud to be a part of The Scraps of Darkness Design Team. I want to thank Melinda, who helped me initially to become a Subscriber ( there were some obstacles) and then gave me an opportunity to show and express myself as a Designer.
So I have been scrapping for more than 5 years, and completely addicted to it past 2 years. I started with the cards, but now my passion is lay outs and altered art. Besides my hobby is batik (silk painting) and water color painting. Now I try to use all these techniques in my projects.
What about my style, so now it is difficult to determine. I am exploring at the present moment steam punk, grunge and mixed media, but being a very gentle person my projects tend to be more feminine. That is why I like also some shabby and vintage. I adore using paints, mists and lace.
My husband is a great support in every aspect of my life, and I'm very happy that he accepts all my beginnings and crazy plans without any objections. My 5 year daughter inspires me to be creative.  I hope I can be creative and inspirational for all of you too.

Michelle Phillips - Mistress of Mayhem

G'day Dark sisters, my name is Michelle aka Bubbachooka, I'm 46 and I live in Sydney, Australia, the Great land down under. I work 9-5 for a global company, and we build ship engines. I have a hubby and 2 beautiful fur babies who you will see in my layouts. I've been scrapping now since 2009, and only last year found my wonderful home here at Scraps of Darkness, until then I wandered aimlessly thru the scrappy world wondering where to begin.
I consider myself to be an eclectic scrapper, I love all styles and Bling, ya just gotta have Bling. I've met so many wonderful people at Scraps of Darkness and made some lifetime friends and I'm totally honored to be the Mistress of Mayhem, Mayhem is my middle name.  See you in the gallery!   Mish

Visit Michelle's blog to see her awesome work!

Sadly, with hellos come goodbyes.  I want to thank Cheryl and Rachelle for all the gorgeous work and dedication they've given us during their terms.  You will both be missed, but we'll all still be following your work!

Cheryl is taking a little break to spend more time with her family.  Summer is coming, and we all know that means the kids are home from school!

And I think we all know where Rachelle will be...  Rachelle's decided to take a break from the DT to spend time in one of her favorite places, the garden!

March Needful Things Sketch Winner

The winner for this month's sketch challenge is:
Vanalv

This page is so full of unique and wondrous beauty.  The pretty lady pictured is Vanalv's daughter, showing off her incredible & fun personality during her senior photo shoot.   Vanalv complimented her daughter's gorgeous senior photo with the "Needful Things" kit using the monthly sketch by Suepup.  She selected and placed the Graphic 45 Olde Curiosity Shoppe papers and stickers accordingly, to  reflect just how unique her daughter really is.  The symbolism is astounding and everything is just delightful!  Congrats!

April Kit Reveal and a tutorial!

Sakurabana, the Japanese word for cherry blossom, is the name of our newest kit... If you are lucky enough to see the cherry blossoms in bloom each spring, you know how perfect and beautiful they are, if not, you'll find lots of them on the gorgeous papers in this kit!

We've got beautiful papers for you this month from Bo Bunny's Serenity Line, Glitz Design's Happy Travel's collection, and from the Classic line from Fabscraps, and lots of fun embellishments to play with - just look at those gorgeous black ostrich feathers!

Normally I direct you to our website to see the add ons for the kit, but I wanted to show off these gorgeous papers, as well as the entire kit, so I thought I'd include a pic of the Patterned Paper and Coordinating Paper add ons.  And what the heck, our Color add on is really fun this month, I can tell you I've been having fun playing with it, myself, so we'll include a pic of that one as well!

March Layout of the Month

The layout of the month for March is:

"Good Times"
by Lily Fiore
Now if this doesn't scream fun and good times, I don't know what will.  Lily used the March "Needful Things" kit to create this very lively page full of smiles.  The collage of photos just seems to have so many happy memories of a girl during her senior year at school.  Lily used the new Graphic 45 Olde Curiosity Shoppe papers with some Maya Road ribbon flowers and some other fabulous embellishes to compliment her collage of photos.  Congrats Lily!!!  Happy Memories!

March Butterfly Dreams Sketch Winner

The winner for this month's sketch challenge is:
Pat aka scrappinvt
With her page called:
"Sisters"
This very elegant page can easily bring a smile to your face.  Just look at these adorable girls, whom are Pat's granddaughters.  Such a soft and charming touch has been applied to let these young ladies shine.  Pat used Suepup's monthly sketch with this "Butterfly Dreams" kit wonderfully.  Renea's butterflies were added on top of the My Mind's Eye- Follow Your Heart paper, which is very befitting for these sweet girls.  Thank you Pat for sharing this delightful page with us and congrats!

Feb-Mar Skeleton's in the Closet Winners

For this "Skeletons in the Closet" challenge round the prompt was
"People Pleaser, are you or aren't you?"

And it has been decided that 2 participants for this rounds challenge are our winners:

Lee aka Violentkittie with her page "I Walk the Line"
Lee did an amazing job symbolizing how she feels about being a definite People Pleaser.  She used the "Winter's Eve" kit to scrap this very beautiful and deep page.  The cut work, flowers and inking are phenomenal.  Congrats Lee!!  And thank you for sharing this with us.

Christine aka Charlies Angel with her page "Pick a Color"
Christine was very creative scrapping the way she sort of blends into her surroundings, therefore making the difference of her being or not being a People Pleaser.  She used the "Escape" kit to make this very striking colorful page.  The die cut and and embellies are all fabulous touches.  Congrats Christine!  Thank you for sharing this with us.

Feb-March Too Cute! (Challenge) Winner

This is a new challenge we have called "Too Cute!" and it is based on scrapping a cute animal of any kind.  Which must be 50% done with a Scraps of Darkness and/or Scraps of Elegance kit.

The winner for the February-March round is:
"The Wag of a Dog's Tail"
by Amanda aka Qweenofthecrop

Photobucket
These 2 cuties are quite the pair, aren't they? This would be Amanda's boy Sampson and his brother Koa looking out the window, taking a break from playing inside, to check out what the bigger dogs are doing outside. They wag their tags and watch intently from the window...just so adorable! Amanda used the February "Victoriana" kit from Scraps of Darkness to show off these sweet fur babies. Her journal reads: "In the whole history of the world there is but one thing money cannot buy: to wit the wag of a dogs tail." - It is from the very beginning of Lady and the Tramp. Thank you Amanda for sharing this sweet page with us and congratulations on winning!

Scrap that Title Winner!!

For this challenge round, for Scrap that Title, our prompt was DISAPPOINT OR DISAPPOINTED, OR DISAPPOINTMENT.
This seemed to be more challenging then anticipated, guess that is why it is called a challenge lol.  Our winner for this round is:
Heather aka Chilvr!!!
Heather titled her page "Afraid to Disappoint".  The beautiful young girl is her granddaughter, whom she cherishes very much.  So you can imagine how much she means to her.   Heather shared her touching story with us, which we will keep private.  But the astounding beauty of this page needs to be shared with the world!!!  Don't you love all the sparkly prettiness?  The cluster of flowers is perfect for such a sweet little girl, dressed as Snow White.  Heather used Scraps of Darkness supplies to complete this page.  Congrats and thanks for sharing!
