A beautiful pink travel layout - August Sparkle and Shine Kit

Hi! Dana here today sharing another layout that I created with the Scraps of Darkness August Sparkle and Shine Kit. Several of the patterned papers from the Prima Rose Quartz and Simple Stories Beautiful collections had me thinking of geodes and marble. These prints reminded me of a photo I took this Summer of Arch Rock on Mackinac Island in Michigan. This landmark is a natural limestone formation and is absolutely beautiful in real life.

I used one of the maps from the Prima Rose Quartz Beautiful Glory patterned paper (Main Kit) as a base for my photo. I added orange and green to this color palette with sheets of Art-C Ephemera, Simple Stories Clear Stickers, and Prima Traveler's Tape, which are all included in the Elements Add-On.

No layout for me is really complete without flowers. I added a small pink bloom from the Floral Add-On to the corner of my photos. I also added some black and white flowers that I cut from the Simple Stories Simply Wonderful patterned paper (Main Kit).

I'm really loving the versatility of the products in this kit. I've created a fun mix of both clean and simple and shabby chic designs. If you missed my previous projects, click on the following links:

Two Amazing layouts - Sparkle and Shine

Hi! Dana here today sharing another layout that I created with the Scraps of Darkness August Sparkle and Shine Kit. I combined the gorgeous flower print patterned papers from the Main Kit and some blooms from the Floral Add-On with an old family photo of my Grandmother for this page.

Beautiful Memories Layered Ephemera Closeup by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness - August Sparkle and Shine Kit

I layered pieces of sheet music from the Art-C Book Pages Ephemera Pack (Elements Add-On) with Simple Stories Cardstock Stickers and Bits and Pieces Die-Cuts (Main Kit) to create a base for my photos. I just love the fancy borders and music on the ephemera pages!

Beautiful Memories Flower Cluster Closeup by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness - August Sparkle and Shine Kit

The mix of flowers in the Main Kit and Floral Add-On are so beautiful. It was hard not to use all of them here! I filled in this flower cluster with leaves that I cut from the patterned papers.

I had a lot of fun mixing prints on this page, using polka dots, florals, and stripes. My Sister-in-Law took this photo. She was able to style my oldest daughter for a fun photo shoot. I would need a serious bribe to get a result like this, so this picture is definitely worth documenting!

I used a Simple Stories Clear Sticker (Elements Add-On) for the title of this layout. This was a great way to add color and text at the same time.

I also love the Prima Rose Quartz Puffy Stickers (Main Kit)! They are such a fun way to add dimension to the page. This embellishment package comes with an identical sheet of cardstock stickers, some of which I tucked into the flower cluster.

I cut some of the circle prints from the patterned paper to help fill in the space on the bottom half of this layout. I used the Gold Calligraphy Paint Marker from the Main Kit to add a fun doodled edge to help finish my design.

A stunnng layout and beautiful canvas - August Sparkle and Shine kit

Hi friends! Dana Tatar here today sharing the first layout I created with the Scraps of Darkness August Sparkle & Shine Kit. The foiled accents on the patterned papers, metallic paint, and shiny sequins were the perfect supplies to use to document the photo of my husband and I that we snapped before the solar eclipse last month. We were able to see the eclipse in totality, and it was an amazing experience. I created a galaxy background with polka dot patterned paper (Main Kit: Simple Stories Simply Wonderful), star die-cuts (Main Kit: Simple Stories Beautiful Bits and Pieces Die-Cuts), and clear star stickers (Elements Add-On: Simple Stories Beautiful Clear Stickers). I also incorporated some left-over product from the Scraps of Darkness February 2017 Our Story Kit: the glitter flake pink Prima Emma Roses, stars from the BoBunny Copper Accents Foil Transfers Rub-Ons, and a moon-themed card from the Prima 3x4 Love Clippings Journaling Notecards. I couldn't resist adding flowers to my design; some of which were cut from the patterned papers, and others that were part of the Floral Add-On. In my world, flowers can survive in space!

Amazing Layout Flower Cluster Closeup by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness - August 2017 Sparkle and Shine Kit

I built this flower cluster by starting with a base of flowers and leaves cut from the Prima Stone Quartz and Simple Stories Follow Your Heart patterned papers. I borrowed a fern leaf for texture from the 49 and Market Natural Blush Seaside Blooms (Floral Add-On). I topped the cut papers with two flowers from the 49 and Market Galaway Gray Floral Mixology (Floral Add-On).

Amazing Layout Journal Spot Closeup by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness - August 2017 Sparkle and Shine Kit

I created a journaling spot on the top corner of my photo with a section that I cut from the Simple Stories Vertical Elements Patterned Paper. I cut around the flowers and banner and slid that portion of the paper on top of my photo, leaving the map portion of the patterned paper behind.

I used the Jacquard Lumiere True Gold Acrylic Paint, Tim Holtz Hickory Smoke Spray Stain, and Tim Holtz Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink Pad on the background of this layout. I also added some pink glitter glue, which is not included in the kit, for some extra sparkle. Once the colored mediums were dry, I glued down sequins, star die-cuts, clear star stickers, and star foil rub-ons.

Now to share a feathered dream catcher canvas that I created with the Scraps of Darkness August Sparkle and Shine Kit. The gorgeous Prima Rose Quartz Grace feather patterned paper (Main Kit) and the wreath from the 49 and Market Natural Blush Blooms (Floral Add-On) were my inspiration for this piece. I used a 9x12 canvas board from my stash for the base of this project. If you don't have a canvas board, the box your kit came in would also work!

Love Today Dream Catcher Canvas Closeup by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness August Sparkle and Shine Kit

I started this project by layering pieces of sheet music from the Art-C Book Pages Ephemera Pack (Elements Add-On) onto the canvas. Then, I brushed on a light layer of watered-down gesso to mute the print on the papers. I used my fingers to apply Jacquard Lumiere True Gold Acrylic Paint (Color Add-On) to the canvas. Next, I spritzed on Tim Holtz Hickory Smoke Spray Stain and sponged on Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink (Color Add-On).

While my canvas was drying, I taped the wreath into a circle using the Prima Traveler's Decorative Tape from the Elements Add-On. Next, I cut feathers from the Prima Rose Quartz Grace patterned paper, tied a length of white baker's twine to each feather, and then tied the feathers to the wreath.

I used a hot glue gun to attach the dream catcher to the canvas and then glued on a mix of pink flowers from the Main Kit and the Floral Add-On.

Once the dream catcher was secured to the canvas base, I added a portion of the pink ostrich feather (Elements Add-On), Simple Stories clear stickers (Elements Add-On), Darice pink sequins (Main Kit), and Prima Rose Quartz puffy feather stickers (Main Kit). I finished this canvas with some Prima watercolor shading and splatters.

Dana rocks the Wood Tray and created a beautiful layout!

Hi! Dana here went off-the-page with this project for Scraps of Darkness, focusing my efforts on the May Attic Finds Creativity Add-On, which includes a set of Tim Holtz Idea-ology Wood Vignette Trays, embellishments from Blue Fern Studios and 7Gypsies, and a Finnabair Art Extravagence Rust Effect Paste Set from Prima. I flipped over the larger tray and built this piece on the back.

Detroit Rock City Wood Vignette Focal Point Closeup by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness

I took this photo of downtown Detroit from a hotel window in 2014, before I headed out to see one of my favorite rock bands play. I layered die-cuts from the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Emporium Ephemera Pack (Main Kit) and pieces cut from patterned paper from the May Patterned Paper Add-On to build up layers under the photo. I also tucked flowers from the Main Kit and the May Floral Add-On between the layers of paper. I colored the brown flowers with the Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Crayon (Main Kit) and the Tim Holtz Tarnished Brass Distress Spray Stain from the May Color Add-On.

I had a lot of fun adding color and texture to this wood vignette tray! I started with Tim Holtz Tarnished Brass Distress Spray Stain and Prima Art Alchemy Metallique Ancient Coin Acrylic Paint from the May Color Add-On. Once those mediums were dry, I cut the 7Gypsies Architextures Tall Base Chicken Wire from the May Creativity Add-On into segments and stuck it to the tray. Finally, I sponged on Prima Finnabair Art Extravagence Rust Effect Paste Set, also from the Creativity Add-On, over the chicken wire for a gritty finish.

I used the Mr. Smith's Workshop Alphabet Stickers from the May Elements Add-On for the title. I hung the Scrapberry's metal microphone (Main Kit) from the hook at the bottom of the cage light embellishments from the 7Gypsies Architextures Junque Pack (May Elements Add-On).

Now I'm sharing the third layout I've created with the Scraps of Darkness May Attic Finds Kit today. My calla lilies are starting to bloom and I wanted to be sure to document their beauty. I love a great wood grain pattern and used two different pieces for this page. I started with the Authentique Rugged Five patterned paper for the base of the layout (Main Kit). Next, I added texture by spreading Prima Finnabair Art Extravagance Rust Effect Paste (May Creativity Add-On) over the Kaisercraft Splatter Mini Designer Template (Main Kit).

I cut a strip of floral paper from the 7 Gypsies Architextures Market Signs patterned paper (Main Kit) and then tore it in half. I attached the torn paper strips to the background and then applied the wood grain sticker from the 7 Gypsies Junque Embellishments Pack (May Elements Add-On), which I cut in half to span the length of the page. Next, I cut the small floral design from the Scrapberry's Archive and Abacus patterned paper (May Patterned Paper Add-On) into pieces and tucked them around the floral print paper.

Fussy Cuts and Flowers by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness

I cut a small frame from the 7 Gypsies Architextures Ornate Frames patterned paper (May Patterned Paper Add-On) and tucked it behind the photos. Next, I cut a circle from the 7 Gypsies Architextures Tin Ceiling Tiles Embellishments (Main Kit), highlighted the raised portion of sticker with Prima Art Alchemy Metallique Ancient Coin Acrylic Paint from the May Color Add-On, and tucked it behind the photos. I filled in the space around the photos with flowers and leaves from the Main Kit, the May Floral Add-On, and some flowers that I bought from the Scraps of Darkness Store.

Bird Cage Embellishment Title Spot by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness

I created a small bird cage embellishment with a Scrapberry's Vintage Circus Metal Charm and a chipboard cage from the Blue Fern Studios Veranda Cage Set (May Elements Add-On). I colored the chipboard cage with the Tim Holtz Tarnished Brass Distress Spray Stain from the May Color Add-On. To finish this layout I added a title using the Mr. Smith's Workshop Alphabet Stickers from the May Elements Add-On and the word "moment," that I cut from the Scrapberry's Archive and Abacus patterned paper (May Patterned Paper Add-On).

I'm really happy with this page and I hope you like it too! Several of the May Add-On kits are still available from the Scraps of Darkness Store, but they are going fast! Two fabulous layouts from Dana!

Good morning!

I'm sharing the first layout I created with the Scraps of Darkness May Attic Finds Kit today. The textures and prints in this kit are so fun to work with! I paired leather and flowers together with a photo of a vintage suitcase I took while visiting the Detroit Antique Mall on a recent trip home for this first page. If you're interested in reading more about the antique treasures that can be found in a large city, CLICK HERE to read my article about my gypsy travels to Detroit, Michigan. I personalized this layout a bit by adding the Detroit area code to the bottom right corner. I cut these numbers from the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Emporium Ephemera Pack.

I used half a sheet of the Authentique Rugged One patterned paper (May Main Kit) and a half sheet of the 7 Gypsies Architextures Vintage Bunting patterned paper (May Patterned Paper Add-On) for the base of my layout. I used the Prima Wild Flowers 6x6 Stencil (Scraps of Darkness Store) with the Prima Finnabair Art Extravagence Rust Effect Paste Set (May Creativity Add-On) to add a colorful textured pattern onto the Rugged One paper.

Next, I added the 7 Gypsies Architextures Stacked Suitcases Adhesive Embellishment and one decorative piece from the 7 Gypsies Junque Embellishments Pack to the page  (May Elements Add-On). These embellishments look and feel like real leather!

I cut a frame for my photos from the 7 Gypsies Architextures Ornate Frames patterned paper (May Patterned Paper Add-On). I tucked fussy cut flower clusters between this frame and my photos. I added a title to the page using Mr. Smith's Workshop Thick Alphabet Stickers (May Elements Add-On). I love the wood burned look!

Finally, I added several flower clusters made from the May Floral Add-On to the page.

I wrote a companion article that details some of the features of the Architextures embellishment line and more about my antique finds from Detroit, Michigan. If you're interested in some further reading, please CLICK HERE.

The second layout I've created with the Scraps of Darkness May Attic Finds Kit today. I had a lot of fun playing with frames for this page! I cut both the large frame and the smaller frame around the photo from the 7 Gypsies Architextures Ornate Frames patterned paper (May Patterned Paper Add-On). I think the realistic texture captured on these frames is amazing. I used the 7 Gypsies Architextures Art Wall patterned paper (Main Kit) for the base of this layout. I loved the peeled floral wall paper and the nail was just perfect for hanging a framed photo on! I cut the gypsy picture from the 7 Gypsies Architextures Old Window patterned paper (Main Kit) and tucked it inside the smaller photo frame.

Rust Effect Stenciled Background by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness Kit Club - May 2017

I added a bright pop of rusty orange to the background by spreading Prima Finnabair Art Extravagance Rust Effect Paste (May Creativity Add-On) over the Kaisercraft Splatter Mini Designer Template (Main Kit). I cut the circles from one of the 7 Gypsies Junque Embellishments and placed them around the page (May Elements Add-On).

Flower Cluster Detail 1 by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness Kit Club - May 2017

I added flowers from the Main Kit and the May Floral Add-On to the page. I tucked in paper flowers that I fussy cut from the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Emporium Ephemera Pack and a bow tied from the May Arts Denim Ribbon (Main Kit).

Flower Cluster Detail 2 by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness Kit Club - May 2017

I purchased the gold and pearl vellum flower from the Scraps of Darkness Store. It paired perfectly with the gold and pearls on the woman in the photo that I couldn't resist adding it to the page.

I cut the title for this page from the 7 Gypsies Architextures Market Signs patterned paper and "clipped" it to the top corner of the layout. The clothespin holding the sign to the page is actually paper. I cut the small clip from the 7 Gypsies Architextures Ornate Frames patterned paper (May Patterned Paper Add-On)!

Several of the May Add-On kits are still available from the Scraps of Darkness Store, but they are going fast! If you don't have a Scraps of Darkness subscription, why not join today?! Two stunning layouts from Dana!

Hi! Dana here....I'm sharing another layout that I created with the February "Our Story" Kit from Scraps of Darkness.

The Blue Fern Studios Memoirs collection is so beautiful that I really didn't want to cover up too much of the paper! I found an older photo of my daughters that I thought would be a great way to highlight the natural elements present in the patterned paper design.

I wanted to highlight some of the beautiful scroll patterns on the background. I used the Festive Berries Distress Marker from the Elements Add-On to trace over the design. This was also a great way to add a pop of color.

My favorite item from the Creativity Add-On is the 12x12 Cork Sheet. The cork sheet is thin enough to cut with a paper trimmer. It also works great with punches! I cut the 12x12 sheet down to about 6x6 and then punched the edges. I wanted to keep the natural cork color, so I first stamped and then burned the design into the cork with a hot tool for a fun, more natural, design feature.

To help bring out some of the subtle reds and blues of this patterned papers, I brought in some red ribbon, and red and blue flowers from my stash. The variety of 49 and Market flowers and leaves from the Main Kit and Floral Add-On came together beautifully to create rustic flower clusters.

The Prima Love Clippings Journaling Notecards make great titles! I used one to create a title spot of this layout that I surrounded with fussy cuts, flowers, Distress Marker highlights, and stamping.

I'm having such a fun time designing with the February Our Story Kit from Scraps of Darkness!

The Prima Love Clippings Journaling Notecards (Main Kit) and the 6x6 Love Clippings Collection Kit (Creativity Add-On) really helps to stretch the 12x12 papers a bit further because I can cut up these smaller papers to help build up layers on my pages. I got creative with this page and created faux layers with border strips and bits and pieces from larger sheets of paper and my scrap pile. I even used some flower packaging under my photo.

I used an old photo of my maternal Grandfather, who I sadly never got to meet. It was dated May 1952 so I used that for the title of this layout. I colored the Kaisercraft chipboard letters with the Festive Berries Distress Marker from the Elements Add-On.

I colored these pieces of Blue Fern Studios XOXO chipboard with the Distress Marker as well. I stamped over the background with the Ruby Rock-It Bella! Champagne Bubbles stamp from the Main Kit using the Prima Chocolat Dye Ink from the Color Add-On. I then staggered some fleur-de-lis accents from the BoBunny Copper Accents Foil Transfers Rub-Ons included in the Elements Add-On. This shimmer to this foil is amazing!

I finished this page with some flowers from the Floral Add-On. I changed the look of the yellow flower by removing the flower center and using that as a separate smaller bloom. I replaced the flower center of the larger yellow flower with beads that I borrowed from a Prima Puccini flower.

2 Amazing layouts from Dana!

Good morning Dana here

Hi! I'm sharing my first layout for Scraps of Darkness. I created this debut project with the February Our Story Kit and it is absolutely gorgeous! There are so many beautiful floral papers and sparkly accents to work with.

I've been holding on to this photo of my youngest niece for some time and was so happy to see how well it coordinated with this kit. I built up layers of journaling notecards, fussy cut papers, book pages, and product packaging (it matches this kit perfectly!) under my photos. I topped the photos with a mix of flowers from the Main Kit, Element Add-On, and Floral Add-On. I colored the small chipboard heart with embossing powder from the Creativity Add-On. The title for this page, "Sweet Life" is from the BoBunny Copper Accents Foil Transfers Rub-Ons, which I added under the photos.

I used the stencil from the Elements Add-On with the Dina Wakley Media Blushing Heavy Body Acrylic Paint from the Creativity Add-On to add a colorful print to the background of my layout. I then added stamping with the fun Ruby Rock-It Bella! Champagne Bubbles stamp and the Prima Chocolat Dye Ink from the Color Add-On. Once that was dry, I added a light layer of whipped spackle over a text stencil for texture and dimension. Lastly, I sprayed the Lindy's Stamp Gang Cocoa Bean Copper Starburst Mist for a metallic accent. The shimmer of this mist is fantastic!

I altered the finish of the Papermania Ever After Wedding Heart Charm for this page from silver to gold with a layer of clear gesso and then gold paint.

This is the second layout I created February Our Story Kit from Scraps of Darkness. There are a lot of repetitive elements in this kit that I love. In addition to the beautiful flowers there are also a lot of circles. I played up both of those elements on this page.

I had this adorable photo of my niece peeking over the edge of a table top that I just love for its playfulness. I decided to cut away the distracting background of the photo to really let her shine. I cut the floral collage sections from the top and bottom of the Prima Love Clippings - Little Love Clippings patterned paper and sandwiched my photo between them.

I built up more layers under the photo from notcards, journaling cards, and fussy cuts from the Main Kit and Creativity Add-On. The Floral Add-On has a wonderful mix of colorful, textured, and glittered blooms that were so fun to mix and match on this page.

I traced two large circles onto the base of this page with the Festive Berries Distress Marker from the Elements Add-On. To add more circles to this page I stamped over the background with the Ruby Rock-It Bella! Champagne Bubbles stamp from the Main Kit using the Prima Chocolat Dye Ink from the Color Add-On. I also added circles from the BoBunny Copper Accents Foil Transfers Rub-Ons included in the Elements Add-On. This shimmer to this foil is amazing!

Lastly, I added a title for this page, "Loving Life," also from the BoBunny Copper Accents Foil Transfers Rub-Ons.

Thanks for Stopping by
~Dana
