Revisiting the Wayfarer kit - Kathy's beautiful fishing layout

I'm back today with a project using the fabulous Scraps of Darkness July kit "Wayfarer".  The photos in the layout were taken about 6 years ago and feature my son, Patrick and oldest grandson, Chase at Montana Creek, north of Anchorage.  Chase is about 15 months in this photo, and it was his first trip to the river.  His middle name is Fisher to represent the fisherman we hope he will be.  My son is an avid fisherman.  He knows exactly what bait, weight, and way to cast that pole.  He should be able to!!!  He has been fishing in the Alaska waters his whole life.  These are very touching photos to my heart!

The background paper is from Blue Fern Studio (BFS) and is included in the Coordinating Paper Add On.  I used it because of little bird at the bottom and the fabulous colors.  I did some stamping, stenciling, and inking around the photos.

I cut a piece of green cardstock to mat the burlap square which is included in the Main Kit.  I also used a circle chipboard from BFS that came in May's Scraps of Darkness kit.  I spent a lot of time on the treatment of this chipboard.  I used the Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint in "Picket Fence" to create the gorgeous crackles.  Then I applied about 4 different Distress inks blending them into the cracks of the paint.  So much fun!

I placed one of the BFS chipboard border pieces from the Main Kit at the bottom of the photos.  I also used another chipboard with the image of Huckleberry Finn going fishing.  Thought it was a perfect for the theme of the photos.  The tall skinny flower on the chipboard is a die cut from the Prima Ephemera in the Main Kit.

I fussy cut the Lupine flower stalks from the Vintage Artistry, "Floral and Fauna" paper from 49th and Market, which is included in the Coordinating Paper Add On.

I then created the floral clusters on each side of the photos using tons of flowers from different previous kits from Scraps of Darkness and Scraps of Elegance.  I tucked in some of the 49th and Market leaf and dragonfly embellishments from the Elements Add On. And, finally added some seed beads to add texture.

This was a fun layout to make.  I think it was the colors and all the wonderful embellishments I was able to use.  More inspiration can be found on this blog from our fabulous Design Teams.  I hope you will check back.  Till next time......Hugs!

FOUR Amazing projects - May Attic Finds kit

Hello dear friends!  I'm back to share my first layout using the Scraps of Darkness May kit "Attic Finds".  What a fun kit.  This kit has allowed me to challenge myself with a style that I have not used before, vintage!!!  The kit is filled with 7 Gypsies and Authentique with all the goodies to go along with whatever you want to create.
This layout features me as a baby with my Mom and Dad.  Mom is just 18 and Dad is 20.  They look so young

The foundation for my layout is from 7Gypsies.  I used one of the other papers from the collection to go on top which I cut apart the wood images, distressed the sides and then glued them down.  I tucked in some cotton lace here and there to give it an old-fashioned textured look.  I really like how it turned out.  On the right side I glued down a vintage heirloom embroidered ribbon that I have been saving for years.

I matted the photo with the brown cardstock from that Add-On and then used a gorgeous paper doily that came in a previous kit.  The doily is all shimmery.  I inked around the edges using the Prima Color Philosophy Ink Pad from the Color Add On.  Before I glued down the photo I adhered some cheesecloth to add more dimension.  I formed a little twine wreath to circle the photo.

Below the photo I used a flourish chipboard from my stash.  I inked it with the Prima Ink Pad before adding it to the layout.  Next I used the Dusty Shale Garden Vine from a previous kit.  I inserted the GORGEOUS Prima Peachy flowers from the Floral Add-On.  There are little butterflies and a bird that comes in this month's Tim Holtz Ephemera pack from the Scraps of Elegance kit.  I used them because their color blended better with this layout.

On the left bottom side of the photo I used a birdcage chipboard from Blue Fern Studios that is included in the Elements Add-On.  I used the Metallic Distress Stain from the Color Add-On and topped it with a sweet little flower.

At the bottom left side of the layout I used a little envelope die cut from the Tim Holt Emphemera pack included in the Main Kit.  I added a little circle of the same twine used around the photo and tucked in some flowers from the Floral Add On.

And finally....the title is chipboard from a previous Scraps of Darkness kit, but is also included in this month's Scraps of Elegance kit.  I used the Prima ink on it as well.
This kit is all about vintage, junk, and fun goodies, which is why it is call "Attic Finds".  This layout showcases my daddy when he was only 2 sitting on top of a Ford Coupe around 1934.  My dad became a mechanic and fixer of all things.  He was always visiting the junkyards, flea markets, etc., looking for that perfect part for an old car or "great deal".  He was quite a haggler, lol.  So, when I found this paper in the Main kit, I knew it was perfect for this photo.

I first fussy cut around the top layer from a 7 Gypsies paper included in the Coordinating Paper Add On and glued it to another 7 Gypsies paper for the background.  I matted the photo with some ripped cardboard and inked around the edges.  I had a piece of steampunk chipboard in my stash that I thought would look perfect around the photo.  I used the Color Philosophy from the Color Add On first on the chipboard and then used the Prima Rust Pastes from the Creativity Add On.

I wanted the base of the photo to look like a pile of junk, so I started adding various bits of pieces from the Tim Holtz Ephemera die cuts included in the Main Kit.  I used more of the rust pastes on clogs from my stash.

How can you have a key hole without a key?  There are antique keys in the Elements Add On which just fit, that I popped on at the top of the photo mat.

I put the Architextures light hanging down on the right side of the photo, which is the same kind I often saw him use in the garage when looking under the hood of a car.  Last, I created the title "1st Car" using the chipboard letters from Papermania included in the Elements Add On.

For this project I chose to feature some of the men in my life.  I call this layout "Mountain Men" cause they are sitting in the woods somewhere camping on the mountain.  That's my Dad and 3 brothers.  Don't they look scruffy!!!  The picture is  really bad, but the memories are priceless!

I chose a 7 Gypsies paper for the foundation and used the Authenique Rugged leather design paper for second layer.  Next I used a Tim Holtz stencil and then painted Lindy's ink to simulate the sky.

I ripped some photo mats from 2 different 7 Gypsies papers and layered a ripped piece of corrugated cardboard (on the bottom).  I found this wired twine-wrapped embellishment at the local craft store, which I attached around the photo.

On the sides of the photo mats I die cut some foliage from another 7 Gypsies' paper from the Main kit.  Next, I used some Creative Embellishment fern chipboards, which I embossed with 2 different embossing powders to give the clusters some variation.

Yes, that is moss peeking out from the bottom sides of the photo.  On top of it and the ferns I added some Petaloo flowers from last months kit.  They look like the same flowers the guys are sitting on in the photo, though I think those flowers are dandelions LOL!!!

For my title I used the Alphabet Thicker Stickers included in the Elements Add On.  You can really see the word "mountain", but have to look for the teeny "men" letters underneath.

Here is a side view of the layout so you can see all the dimension.

I wanted to create a Clean and Simple (CAS) layout to showcase this precious photo of my Grandson, Chase, age 3.  Such a photogenic child, and adorable as he can be.

I used two Authenique papers from the Coordinating Paper Add On for my background, perfect for the photo.  I stenciled and splattered ink around the focal area to add some brightness and depth.

I cut a large mat from the 7 Gypsies paper from the Coordinating Paper Add On (light blue).  I just adore the Tim Holtz Ephemera die cuts from the Main Kit.  I decided I wanted to play with them all around the photo and layout.  The air mail theme worked really well for the colors and masculine feel.  The number 3 represents how hold he is in this photo and was fussy cut from a 7 Gypsies paper in the Coordinating Paper Add On.

The circle chipboard at the top left of the photo is from Creative Embellishments.  I painted it with Garnet paint from Art Alchemy from a previous kit.

Here is a side view of one of the collages where I tucked in a little twine bow to add some movement.

And last, I used a 2 Crafty chipboard for the title, which I painted in a lovely shade of pearl.

I don't usually buy any paints, inks, embossing powders, etc., I always get them in my kits.  I have quite a collection, and you can too by subscribing to the Scraps of Darkness or Scraps of Elegance monthly kits and Add Ons.  You will be so happy you did.  Till next time!

Blue & Yellow: 2 fun mixed media layouts w/our April kit

Hello!
Tatiana is here with you today and I'd like to share my first layout featuring April Scraps of Darkness Blue Skies & Sunshine Kit.

For the background of  my layout I chose paper from BoBunny Petal Lane Collection and combined it with the embelishments from Kaisercraft Indigo Skies Collection. I think blue and yellow looks together wonderful.

I started from background stamping and used bubble stamp from one of previous kits, Stazon ink and Prima Ingvild Bolm ink from the April kit. Blue Fern Studios chipboard circle was colored using Prima ink and I also added a little bit of water to blend color better using brush.

On the left side of the layout I created small composition with several pieces of paper, stickers, collectebles and small flower. I also added background stamping there.

On the right side of the layout I created composition using stickers, collectables and daisy flower from the kit. I also added flowers which were cut from Kaisercraft paper included in the main kit and chipboard circle.

For the final touches I used glass glitter from the Elements add on, sparklets, rhinestones, pearls and splashes with turquoise Lindy's mist, black Kaisercraft mist and white texture Tsukineko mist.

Hope you enjoyed my project. All the best!

-----------------------------

Hello Dear Scrappy Friends!!  Kathy Mosher here to share with you another layout using the Scraps of Darkness April kit "Blue Skies & Sunshine".  This layout is featuring school pictures of my youngest Grandson, Cameron for Kindergarten.  Youcan see the difference in how his confidence grew as the year progressed.

School pictures can be a little challenging to scrap layouts with.  I really wanted to add a little pizazz to make it a fun layout, so I started by using the Kaisercraft "Indigo Skies" collection from the Main Kit.  I ripped the corners of the main background paper to add a little interest.  In the corners I fussy cut some of the strips from one of the Indigo Skies papers in the Coordinating Paper Add On. I also used the Prima Fluid Chalk Inker "Blue Jay" included in the Main Kit to ink around all the papers and elements I used.

Once I got it all glued down I applied some gesso to brighten up the denim look and make my media pop from the page.  Then I used a Dylusions stencil with numbers to symbolize the school theme.  I used the Nuvo Embellishment Mousse that is included in the Creativity Add-On which added some fun color with the blue.  I splattered inks and began to stamp around the page.

I had these cool star chipboards in my stash that I have been wanting to use for a masculine layout.  I embossed them with 2 different powders to get the blue color I wanted.

I used 2 die cut sentiments from the Elements Add On that worked perfect for the layout.

Next I used some Thicker Alphabet Letters around the page to once again, symbolize the school theme.  I used gesso on them first so that the Art Alchemy Paint (Magical Pond) from the Color Add On would adhere to the letters with a smooth finish.

All that was left to make my layout pop was to add a little Glass Glitter from Prima, which came in a previous kit.  I sprinkled little bits in various places.  And, last I added phrase "Reach for the Moon, and if You Fall You Will Land Among the Stars", so perfect for the my little guy's first school pictures.  This phrase was actually printed in the selvage of one of the papers.

I hope you enjoyed the details about my layout and will stop by again real soon.  I also hope you will consider this your home away from home and become a member of our kit club.

Till Next Time!
Kathy
