Mixed Media Canvas Tutorial: July The Wayfarer Kit

It's Cindy Brown with my second Tutorial for Scrap of Darkness.  For this project I used the Scraps Of Darkness July Kit : The Wayfarer

I chose to make a beautiful canvas. First, I chose my paper. Then I chose my embellishments.
I added two layers of Gesso and drops of Gesso with water. And finally, I used my beautiful Lindy sprays for splashing.

Do not forget to see the video below.  Here is my canvas:

A stunnng layout and beautiful canvas - August Sparkle and Shine kit

Hi friends! Dana Tatar here today sharing the first layout I created with the Scraps of Darkness August Sparkle & Shine Kit. The foiled accents on the patterned papers, metallic paint, and shiny sequins were the perfect supplies to use to document the photo of my husband and I that we snapped before the solar eclipse last month. We were able to see the eclipse in totality, and it was an amazing experience. I created a galaxy background with polka dot patterned paper (Main Kit: Simple Stories Simply Wonderful), star die-cuts (Main Kit: Simple Stories Beautiful Bits and Pieces Die-Cuts), and clear star stickers (Elements Add-On: Simple Stories Beautiful Clear Stickers). I also incorporated some left-over product from the Scraps of Darkness February 2017 Our Story Kit: the glitter flake pink Prima Emma Roses, stars from the BoBunny Copper Accents Foil Transfers Rub-Ons, and a moon-themed card from the Prima 3x4 Love Clippings Journaling Notecards. I couldn't resist adding flowers to my design; some of which were cut from the patterned papers, and others that were part of the Floral Add-On. In my world, flowers can survive in space!

I built this flower cluster by starting with a base of flowers and leaves cut from the Prima Stone Quartz and Simple Stories Follow Your Heart patterned papers. I borrowed a fern leaf for texture from the 49 and Market Natural Blush Seaside Blooms (Floral Add-On). I topped the cut papers with two flowers from the 49 and Market Galaway Gray Floral Mixology (Floral Add-On).

I created a journaling spot on the top corner of my photo with a section that I cut from the Simple Stories Vertical Elements Patterned Paper. I cut around the flowers and banner and slid that portion of the paper on top of my photo, leaving the map portion of the patterned paper behind.

I used the Jacquard Lumiere True Gold Acrylic Paint, Tim Holtz Hickory Smoke Spray Stain, and Tim Holtz Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink Pad on the background of this layout. I also added some pink glitter glue, which is not included in the kit, for some extra sparkle. Once the colored mediums were dry, I glued down sequins, star die-cuts, clear star stickers, and star foil rub-ons.

Now to share a feathered dream catcher canvas that I created with the Scraps of Darkness August Sparkle and Shine Kit. The gorgeous Prima Rose Quartz Grace feather patterned paper (Main Kit) and the wreath from the 49 and Market Natural Blush Blooms (Floral Add-On) were my inspiration for this piece. I used a 9x12 canvas board from my stash for the base of this project. If you don't have a canvas board, the box your kit came in would also work!

I started this project by layering pieces of sheet music from the Art-C Book Pages Ephemera Pack (Elements Add-On) onto the canvas. Then, I brushed on a light layer of watered-down gesso to mute the print on the papers. I used my fingers to apply Jacquard Lumiere True Gold Acrylic Paint (Color Add-On) to the canvas. Next, I spritzed on Tim Holtz Hickory Smoke Spray Stain and sponged on Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink (Color Add-On).

While my canvas was drying, I taped the wreath into a circle using the Prima Traveler's Decorative Tape from the Elements Add-On. Next, I cut feathers from the Prima Rose Quartz Grace patterned paper, tied a length of white baker's twine to each feather, and then tied the feathers to the wreath.

I used a hot glue gun to attach the dream catcher to the canvas and then glued on a mix of pink flowers from the Main Kit and the Floral Add-On.

Once the dream catcher was secured to the canvas base, I added a portion of the pink ostrich feather (Elements Add-On), Simple Stories clear stickers (Elements Add-On), Darice pink sequins (Main Kit), and Prima Rose Quartz puffy feather stickers (Main Kit). I finished this canvas with some Prima watercolor shading and splatters.

Mixed Media Monday Tutorial: Prima Princess Stamp & Watercolor Pencils Canvas

It's Tracey back with a new project to share with you from the June "Birds of a Feather" Kit, featuring the Creativity Add On. I just adore how I continue to be challenged by the mixed media products each month in the gorgeous kits and add ons. This month Melinda included one of the gorgeous Prima Princess stamps and the Sweet Pastels Prima Watercolor Pencil Set. I had so much fun coloring her as the focal point for my "Dream" canvas and have created a technique video for you sharing my process for coloring her. I also grabbed my Prima Spring and Fall Watercolor Pencils from a previous kit and share the numbers of the colors I use in the video.

Enjoy the video!

October 2015: Prima - Watercolor Pencils - Spring & Fall Set

Sharing photo details:
A close up of the watercolor detail.

I adhered the watercolor paper to an 8 x 10" Canvas, and used Prima Water Soluble Oil Pastel Crayons from a previous kit to color in a yellow wash across the background. I then stenciled paint from this month's Color Add On around some of the edges and used 49 and Market stamps from the Elements Add On and Store to create a grungy mixed media background. I also brushed on several colors of Distress Oxide Inks and edged the canvas with Pan Pastels.

The word "Dream" seen in the full project photo was created by placing sticker letters on the watercolor paper, then coloring and stamping over them. Heat them a little with your heat tool for easy removal. Once removed, I used a fine tip marker to doodle around the letters and brushed watered down paint across them to color.

I adore these flower die cuts in the Main Kit BoBunny Noteworthy set, paired with a single Prima dimensional flower from the Flower Add On. I started out with mostly dimensional flowers, but realized that it took the focus away from the beautiful princess, so these die cut flowers ended up being a perfect complement without drawing too much attention from our girl. I've also scattered a few of the sweet butterfly die cuts around the canvas.

I snipped the gorgeous Blue Fern Studio Curling Corner Chipboard from the Elements Add on in half and covered it in three layers of embossing powder, heated between each coat. I started with completely covering it with white embossing, then with glittered Cotton Candy embossing powder that mostly covers the piece, then light sprinkles of Raspberry Sherbet from my stash. By partially covering with the second and third layers, you can see hints of all three colors.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you've been inspired to grab your kit and Creativity Add On to create a home decor piece with this beautiful image.

~ Blessings ~

Two amazing mixed media art pieces - May Mix'd Media kit

Hello Friends-
Today I'm sharing the Off The Page Project for Scraps of Elegance May Kit "Mix'd Media"
I absolutely loved this creating with this Kaisercraft Birdhouse!

In case you haven't noticed I have a passion for art dolls and book page fringe. In used the beautiful Blue Fern Studios Happy Accident papers in background as the base for the whole birdhouse. I then used the Prima Art Alchemy Butterfly Spells Acrylic Paint over the edges of the birdhouse. I used some crackle paste and modeling paste with a stencil to create texture and interest in random areas on the roof and edges. I dabbed Prima rust paste on these areas to create a worn patina look.

The front of my birdhouse has one of my favorite art dolls. I used a metal birdhouse found in the Scraps of Darkness Kit and some chipboard birds that covered in a blue acrylic paint and rust paste. Of course I added tons of flowers and leaves found in the floral add on because I just love flowers on my projects!

I wanted to do something different for my roof. I added book page trim and shaped it to look like a big nest. Then I added in some moss and a little birds nest and chipboard birds.

The sides of the birdhouse are embellished as well. I used a lot of elements from the Tim Holtz Ephemera Botanical found in the Elements Add On. I also used my book page fringe along the edges.

Here is a little close up of the front. Isn't she adorable?

Another side view with layers of stencils, florals and ephemera.

I also stamped randomly with the Blue Fern Clear Stamps Halftones found in the Elements Add On.

A close up of the perch using rust paste and crackle paste.

I stenciled both with paste and distress ink.

I added some wooden feet and painted with the acrylic paint found in the Color Add On.

Hope you are inspired to create one for yourself!

Hello!  It's Nicole again with you today with yet another
creation using products from the Scraps of Elegance 'Mix'd Media' Kit.

From the April SOE kit 'A Song of Spring' Elements Add-On kit,
I used the large Memory Hardware Resin 'Montchamp Imperial' Frame. And from the May SOE kit 'Mix'd Media', I used lots of Prima flowers including the gorgeous Haley flowers from the Floral Add-On as well Timeless Memories Recollections Metal Trinkets also from Prima, among many other products from the kit and its add-ons. Click HERE to find out more about these kits and any current kits.

Now let's look at some close-ups!

I started off with a 9x9 white canvas base and primed it with Gesso.
I then did some stenciling with the Kaisercraft stencil from the main kit and then misted it in gradual tones with different shades of pink.

I then stuck down the frame, then chipboard, flowers, leaves, metal trinkets and popped up the die-cut butterflies with 3D foam squares.

After all my embellishments were stuck down, I sprayed some
spray adhesive and sprinkled some Ranger Primrose Ice Resin
that was part of the April kit as well as 'Blush' micro beads.
The spray adhesive is awesome to help all those little
pieces stick to the canvas and to the embellishments.

As a final touch, I dabbed some white acrylic paint on pretty much
every flower and decoration and around the canvas to create a softer border.

And then you go...
a very 'pretty in pink' canvas with gorgeous Prima blooms
and loads of mixed media texture and colour!
