Two beautiful mixed media layouts - May Mix'd Media kit

Hello, everyone!
Sandi here with you today sharing another project using the May Scraps of Elegance Kit "Mix'd Media."

"Lucy - Born an Original"

This time I've incorporated papers from the Paper Add-On: some tranquil, soothing 7 Dots Cotton Candy Dreams papers ... specifically Pucker Up as my base and then  just Cotton Candy Dreams in torn strips. I prepped the background with clear gesso, let it dry and then did random stamping with the Blue Fern Studios Halftone stamp from the Elements Add On. I brought out the DecoArt Sand Texture paste once again (Main Kit) and did some stenciling around my focal area.

While that was drying, I colorized the white seam binding that came in the Main Kit and secured it with a clip and left it to dry.

As everything was drying, I began choosing flowers and ephemera as well as co-ordinating chipboard from the Main Kit, Floral Add On and Elements Add On.

This, of course, is a photo of the lower left floral cluster area. You can see that I used the Lucky chipboard piece, struck out the K and used it for my LUCY title. I wove it some of the seam binding. Tucked in a Prima Metal Trinket from the Main Kit and added some Mica flakes from a previous Kit.

I went for broke here and used the "born an original" chipboard from the Co-ordinating Chipboard from the Main Kit. I'm sure it will be overdone but it's perfect here for this old publicity photo of Lucille Ball, so why not??? Love all these beautiful flowers from the Flower Add on.

I decided to use the Artisan Powder from the Color Add On to emphasize my focal areas. It is a gorgeous patina color.

I used the round shapes simply because I thought they worked nicely with the chevron in the patterned papers.

Right angle. The wee flower represents Lucille being one of a kind.

Here's the other side!

I was a girl with a mission on this particular project! I'd been wanting to scrap this photo of my friend Holly but hadn't gotten around to it as sometimes happens. Suddenly, I realized her birthday was coming up soon .. as in REALLY soon!!!  So I got busy .... fast!

As I shuffled through my May Scraps of Elegance Mix'd Media Kit, there were so many ways to go with this one. I had lots of great paper choices. However, when I stumbled upon the 7 Dots Cotton Candy Dreams Sugar Haze, I  knew it was "the one." With the beautiful greens and oranges, half the work was already done for me. It just needed some personal touches.

After preparing my background, I did some random stamping and applied some super heavy gesso through a stencil for interest and depth. Of course, I got the mists out and played with those as well. While that was drying, I took some chipboard from my stash and painted them up with the Finnabair Rust Paints from the Scraps of Darkness May "Attic Finds" Creativity Kit. This particular Kit as a whole was full of my fave earth tones, so I had to grab them up while I could!!! Not ashamed!

Just to bring more texture toward my photo, I've used a scrap of wide burlap ribbon underneath my photo and layered lots of the floral ephemera as well as some flowers from the Kit and from my stash.

The Free title chipboard piece is from the coordinating Blue Fern Studios Happy Accident collection and is found in the Main Kit. I thought it counter-balanced nicely here.

Here I've tucked in one of the Prima Metal pieces. Perfect for an outdoors photo. Of course, I added a butterfly in keeping with outdoors.

The photo was taken several years ago, so I must note that the horse and rider take much bigger jumps now. But I love this particular photo for some reason. My friend has trained really hard to enter into "eventing" and compete again younger women.

Final touches were to splatter some mists around the focal area.

That's about it!
I've left my project untrimmed because I plan to shadow box it and I'm unsure how my dimensions will turn out.

Thanks for coming by!
