Here is another lo I created using the March Scraps of Darkness kit "Boys Will Be Boys" featuring my 2 grandsons, Chase and Cameron. The boys are very active in Cub Scouts and this photo was taken at the Sea Life Center in Seward. They were rock climbing around the seal aquarium, little monkeys they are!!!
This layout took me a really long time, not sure why, I think it is because of the softness mixed with the grunge that threw me off. Anyway, I was able to get it the way I liked it eventually!
I used so many of the goodies included in the Main Kit as well as the Add-Ons. I used the Crafter's Companion stencil on the background paper from the Creativity Add On first, added a little Lindy's color and then went crazy with the stamping. For the orange square I used the Bo Bunny collection from the Coordinating Paper Add-On, glued some strips of burlap around the edges, and last, but not least used that fabulous new stamp from Gabi that comes in the Elements Add On.
The gears you see in the picture were cut from dies made by Kaisercraft and Tim Holtz. I used some of the Bo Bunny paper from the kit to make some of them and others I used cereal boxes to get a more dimensional piece. I embossed them using Lindy's embossing powder from a previous kit. Then I rubbed on some of the Tim Holtz Distress Crayon "Salty Ocean". I could get hooked on those little guys. Very waxy and fun! I also added some of the microbeads from American Crafts, which you can find in the Elements Add On.
The layers behind the photo were created using the Bo Bunny Misc. Me cards that come in the Main Kit. Lisa Novagrodski, our Design Team Coordinator created a layout this month using the fabulous octopus from the Bo Bunny collection and challenged us to use one on our layouts. So I tucked in my little guy amongst the layers.
The chipboard around the photo comes from my stash. I used more of the Lindy's embossing powder and rubbed more Distress Crayon around it. Love the effect.
The title chipboard is from Blue Fern Studios and comes in the Main Kit. I used the same treatment on it as I did on the gears. Love the brown and blue combination with all the beads.
I created a little cluster on the bottom left of the photo. I can't call it a flower cluster cause my son was giving me such a hard time about using flowers on a layout for boys. Does that happen to you too???
I used various elements from previous kits, as well as fussy cut the number 3 from one of the notecard images from Bo Bunny in the Coordinating Paper Add On.
I thought you might be interested in how the layout looks from the sides. You can really see the layers.
Masculine layouts can be hard to create. I have to put myself in a different mindset. Although I love the grunge look and linear/geometric lines you can create. Hope you like it!
Till next time, please think about subscribing to the Scraps of Darkness membership club. These kits really sell out fast, and you don't want to miss out on all the fun! Happy Easter Everyone!
