Mixed Media Monday!

Good morning!

It's mixed media Monday which means I get to share a few gorgeous creations form our uber talented Design Team that feature mixed media products and techniques! 

First up I want to share a gorgeous creation from Lisa Novogrodski using the Scraps Of Darkness kit Laura's Wish!

She mixed up her ink colors, stamping in blue, black and red. There is a great stencil in the kit and she used that with distress ink in the background.

She sprinkled some Mica flakes in gold on the page too for a little added texture and sparkle.

She really couldn't resist using gears this month. She has a ton of them in chipboard. She coated these in paste and then painted them with Lumiere in several different different colors. She then went over it with a red antiquing cream.

Next up I Want to share this tremendously awesome creation from Lisa Griffith using the Scraps Of Elegance kit - Lynne's Garden Terrace

There were some gorgeous metal pieces that she tucked into the flowers and into the torn paper.

The Tim Holtz metal frame was a perfect look for her superb vintage design.

Beautiful Prima flowers from the same collection. She tucked in some Blue Fern Studios chipboard pieces that she painted white and then softened with Vintage Photo ink.

This was the first time she had ever used the Magical Pigment Powder from Lindy's Stamp Gang and she loved it. It had a beautiful shimmer to it and she loved the almost two toned color, bright purple with a teal undertone.

A tribute to Karen

Good morning.  It is with much sadness that I am announcing that Karen is retiring from our Design Team.

Karen has been here at Scraps of Darkness/Elegance since the beginning, she is one of our Core Designers, my good friend, and a beautiful person.  And I am going to miss having her on the team.

I didn't want this to be a totally sad post though, I know Karen will be spending some of her new free time in her gardens, and with her beautiful grandsons, and I am happy for her, I know I'd rather be spending time on the garden and with my grandson than doing most things!

So as I thought about what I wanted to do in this post, I thought rather than go on and on about it being sad, I would share some of my favorite projects that Karen has done for us, so without further delay, I bring you some of the amazing work of Karen Zueger-Brownell.

Playing with the pigment powder!

In this month's Scraps Of Darkness kit was  

Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals Pigment Powder in Tainted Love Teal.

According to Lindy's site these little bottle of wonders are 'Pigment powders with a "KICK"! Add to any medium, water, or water soluble products to tint them to match your Starbursts!  Add a little for softer versions of the color and a lot for deep vibrant tinting.'

Today I wanted to showcase what Sindi created with it

 

To achieve this look  for the background - sprinkle a horizontal line of the powder across the top of the page. Then  spritz it with water and used a ruler to drag it down the page. For a contrast add another color of mist (she added in a few drops of yellow mist) and scrape that down as well. 

The look it created works well with the waterfall photo.

The next layout from Sindi is a really sentimental one to her. 

To achieve the look of the water color hearts - 

Cut some heart shapes out of plain, white cardstock. Then sprinkle on some pigment powder and dripped on some spray mist. Spray all that with water to give it this cool, watercolor effect.

Love that pigment powder!

Today we are returning to Oz with some super fabulous creations by Michelle using the

Scraps of Darkness 'Laura's Wish' kit.

Oh So Shabbylicious!!!

I LOVE the look of Shabby Chic....its so beautiful!

I believe the definition is: 

Something that's rather worn out/tattered yet has a touch of understated class and an air of charm. It is  achieved through an elegant balance of the old and worn, with the new and shiny, with textures to achieve a romantic affect.

So today I am going to share a few projects that are just shabbylicious and beautiful!

First up is a gorgeous layout by Mallika using the Scraps Of Elegance 'Lynne's Garden Terrace' kit

The collection was a perfect match for her mothers day layout - as her mother always taught her to be independent like a buttefly and fly high.
She was totally inspired by the mood board.

Next up is the Queen of Shabby Chic - Renea using the Scraps Of Elegance 'Lynne's garden terrace' kit

She created a matching set using some images that she had used before, scaling them down, distressing and inking the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink In Tattered Rose, and sewing them.

 

She tore out pieces of tissue paper, crinkled it up and inked it and layered that along with some of the tickets that were in this month's Embellishment add on, and then topped those pieces with my sewn image.

 

at the bottom she tore the paper into a V, then curled them back and layered ruffled ribbon to "Peek" out, and topped it with a Prima Ingvild Bolme Resin Heart piece. I added stash mulberry paper flowers, and some of the flowers from this month's floral add on.

 

 

 

At the top of the photos, She added another Prima Ingvild Bolme Resin Heart piece and then pulled some Vintage lace through a hole and topped it with a Rhinestone Button.

 

 

 

Her next set of tags is equally beautiful

 

 

She wanted a really soft look so she took some of the Bo Bunny paper and coated it with gesso, then took a  Tim Holtz Doily Stencil and went over it with Ranger Texture Paste, and with the stencil still on I misted it with some Lindy's Mist from a past kit. I then inked the distressed edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Tea Dye.

 

 

Next she punched another layer of paper and stamped it with a Prima brick stamp from a past kit, then added a sewn matte layer and then sewed the images and added them. She made hand dyed seam binding bows, topped them with a rhinestone button, and then pulled some of the small lace from the kit through for a hang tag.

 

 

At the bottom of each photo, she added flowers from the kit and this month's floral add on, and some stash foliage, some wide lace, and topped them off with some of her handcrafted butterflies.
