Mixed Media Monday!

Happy Thanksgiving to all our Canadian friends!

Since it is mixed media Monday I have a few spectacular projects to show you!

First up is  with this amazing layout using the

Scraps Of Darkness Danse Macabré Kit. She really shows how versatile even our Halloween kits are - would you have guessed this was done with a Halloween kit?!

The background of her page is cardboard and the first layer is Graphic 45 Rare Oddities. She used Lisa Gregory's technique of spraying the edges with Lindy's Mists and gently pulling them away from the background in a distressed manner. She used Lindy's on the cardboard along with Lumiere in gold.

The florals are a mix of Petaloo and some rosettes she created. We always receive a beautiful mixed of flowers in the add on each month. You can find them - here 

She also used a piece of chipboard she had in her stash. She embossed the chipboard with a watermark resist pad and then used her favorite powders "Stampendous" Spoonful of Rust Embossing Powder. This was included in our Creativity Add On, found here

She used some stamps to create the leaves. The background is masked in brown and purple. She tucked a little owl into the background cut out from the Rare Oddities papers.

and finally this outstandingly wonderful creation from Stephanie also using our

This is a 30x30 canvas!

She worked here with crackle accent and Lindy's Stamp Gang inks to get this very strong crackle effect and the dark inks amplify this texture in a very nice way. She created this canvas around an orange and brown color palette, and she used many flowers with orange, pink  and brown tones from the kit and previous kits. She enjoyed using metal elements here  (Graphic45 ornate Metal Key Holes from the Elements Add On / Artémio flowers) that were the perfect complement to this project.

Beautiful Marion Smith Designs Time Keeper Layouts

Good Thursday Morning!

It's a rainy day today - think it will be a good day to stay in and scrap!

I am sharing some beautiful layouts today from our wonderful Scraps Of Darkness Design Team!

First up is Kathy with this beautiful tribute layout to her mom...

She started by punching around one of the Marion Smith papers from the kit, backed it with a piece of plain cardstock so that the lovely design would show through.  She fussy cut around another piece included with all these wonderful flowers and clocks and inked the edges then glued those pieces down to another paper included as well.
She lightly stamped a script design around the fussy cut pieces to add a little "old" look.  She spent hours embossing and cutting the oval frame around the photo, then backed the frame with a torn page from a book published in 1807.
She then began to place the flowers and chipboard, butterflies and all the other embellishments and used quite a bit of cheesecloth to get a romantic look.  Here are a few detail photos.

Kathy and I had the same idea of fussy cutting the clocks and flowers!

This is our youngest and I just before his confirmation in the spring.  I can not believe how fast time has flown by since I became a mom!

I fussy cut all the corner flowers and clocks out of the gorgeous Marion Smith Timekeeper papers.

I did lots of layers under the photo of different Marion Smith Timekeeper papers.

I used a Blue Fern chipboard piece from a previous kit and the distress stain then the Heidi Swapp 'mustard' mist from previous kits.  I allowed them to dry, added a bit of the Lindys Stamp Gang Midnight Bronze and Scotch Butter Yellow embossing powders from the color add on.  I then added some crackle medium in spots. 

The cool metal piece at the bottom of the chipboard piece is a Prima Industrial Lighting piece from the Elements add on!

The flowers are some I bought at the Scraps Of Darkness store and sprayed with the mustard mist then inked and added some crackle medium!

Here you can see all the layers under the photo and a doily I sprayed with the Lindys stamp gang mist from the color add on and the mustard one.

I do not like seeing the white from the foam dots when I want to add dimension and I did not have any of the black ones so I used a bit of the brown mist on a paint brush to color the sides so they were not so noticeable!

Renea's first project with the October Scraps Of Elegance kit!

Today I am sharing Renea's first layout with the new October Scraps Of Elegance kit...

'Tiffany's Style'

She used the Kaisercraft Oh So Lovely 'Woman' wood grain paper that was in this month's Coordinating Paper Add On, and layered it over a second sheet of the same paper using the backside of the  pattern, then distressed the edges and did some paper curling at the bottom and created some torn peek a boos to expose the paper underneath.

Here you can see how the paper curling adds interest and dimension to the layout.

She used gesso and dry brushed it over the area just outside her photo layers.

She used the Prima Royal Menagerie stamp from the main kit, some ink and did some subtle stamping.

She added corrugated board that was painted with gesso and inked, another layer of paper and one of the Prima Paintables Tags (from the main kit) that she distressed, added a twine bow to and topped with a flowers,  chunky glitter glass and a Prima Royal Menagerie Flower from this month's Floral Add On.

At the bottom where she paper curled, she added some lace that she ran the long pins with the crystal heads (from the main kit) through and ruched, then tied some twine bows and added those to so that the pin heads showed.

The flower layer at the bottom corner was created with a past kit burlap flower, a flower from the main kit, a flower from the Floral Add On, another twine bow with mini texture rose topper, and then she popped a sweet Prima Large Resin Owl into in keeping with her more natural theme of the layout.

The set of two Sweetheart Teal Butterflies are some of her handcrafted butterflies and were created to go with, and are included in, this month's kit.

Tag! Tags! Tags!

Good morning everyone!

We are half way through the week!

Today I am going to share a few tags that our team created! 

First up are a couple of stunning tags that Lisa Novogrodski created, using the Scraps Of Elegance Lisa's Sweet September Kit.

She used the beautiful Blue Fern Autumn Anthology Paper found in the kit as a base, then layered a shimmery Papermania Lace Paper over it and then piled on the flowers. The florals were all either from the current or past kits. Our floral add on is a great way to build up your stash!  

The beautiful resin from Prima is also found in the kit along with Reneas gorgeous Dragonfly.

She added some lace as a layer and some cheesecloth.

The beautiful chipboard piece is from Graphic 45's Gilded Lily Collection, and was included in the Elements Add On.

The back of the tag is a book page. She used two stencils, one is the gorgeous Rebecca Baer Morrocan Tile & Vine Stencil found in the Elements Add On. We also have it available, along with tons of other Rebecca Baer Stencils, in our store. You can find it  HERE

and here is her second beautiful tag!

The top of the tag features a gorgeous gold wired ribbon bow. She  layered one of the Gilded Lily papers from the kit and fussy cut some lilies. Lots of inking along the edges of everything and she did do random stamping.

A little splatter of gold paint here and there.

The bottom is finished with a tulle fringe trim and looks like a little skirt.

Next are a couple of gorgeous tags from Anna, also using the Scraps Of Elegance September kit.

Next are a few tags from me that I will use for accents on upcoming layouts!

this one was fun - did not turn out as I planned but I still think its cool!

I had mopped up the yellow and brown mists, after using them on the flowers and chipboard piece on my Time Flies layout, with one of the kraft tags from the kit.

I then used the Rebecca Baer Honeycomb stencil and an embossing pad then the Lindy's Stamp Gang Midnight Bronze embossing powder from the color add on.  I heat set it and added some crackle medium to sections.  To highlight the crackled parts I also dry brushed some gesso, then inked the edges.

 This one was fun too!  I sprayed a tag with the mist from the color add on, then used a different part of the same stencil and embossed again.  I then brushed a bit of gesso, inked the edges, add some of the Renea Bouquets chunky glitter glass from the kit, a Kaisercraft title sticker and a few Prima flowers from the floral add on.

My final tag I layered the Marion Smith papers and fussy cut the 'journey' from one of the papers!

I also mopped up the colors after using mists with a doily!

I love those feathers from Prima!

I inked the edges of the journey piece and inked the edges.  I also did a fine layer crackle medium to age it a bit!

Here is a quick little tip!  Keep some tags on your work station so when you use mists or inks on you can clean up some of the mists or inks from your craft mat with your tag.  you will always have fun colored tags
