Whirlygig Flower Tutorial by Nancy Hanttula

Here is an easy and short tutorial explaining how I created the 2 flowers, which I call Whirlygigs, on my Elizabeth layout:

1st: I cut 3 pinwheel shapes from my Mother's Day 2010 cricut cartridge - but any pin-wheel shape will do, and I have included a photo of the outline of the pieces so that you can print it out and use it as a template if you do not have access to a pin-wheel shape and/or die-cutting machine.  I cut 3 different sizes...large size for the bottom base of the flower, a medium size for the middle and smaller size for the top of the flower. (note: you need to use double-sided paper for these flowers as both sides show)

2nd: Once you have your three shapes cut out...ink the edges on BOTH sides.

3rd:  Punch a hole in the center of each flower...and at the end of the long edge side of the tips of the pieces...SEE PHOTO BELOW for actual location of where this hole needs to be punched.

4th:  The hole at the end of the "petals" will be brought to the hole located in the center of the flower as seen below.

If you wanted to create a simple pin-wheel...then you could stop here and insert a brad through all of the holes to secure....but continue on and make 2 more of these pin-wheels to layer together to creat the actual flower.

note: the bottom 2 layers I secure with either hot-glue or tape...the top pinwheel I secure with a brad that goes through all of the holes...and then hot-glue this last (top) layer onto the flower to finish....I stagger the layering of the flowers to give the flower it's fullness.

and that is all there is to it! Thanks for looking!
