Layout of the Week by Cheryl
This weeks LOTW was picked by our DT Nancy and she chose this beautiful layout by Cheryl aka C_Mom_Go called "Never to be Forgotten." Nancy chose this layout for because it is so poignant and heartfelt and it immediately draws you in for a closer look. The layering, stamping, distressing, and framing of her mom's wonderful photo is amazing. The journaling envelope is perfection. The entire layout is a treasure, and I am so thankful that Cheryl shared this with us. Huge Congrats Cheryl!!!

Layout of the Week by Vanillabliss
This weeks layout was chosen by one of our newest DT's, Lisa Novogrodski, and she chose a layout made by Joy aka Vanillabliss, called Arwen. Lisa's blurb for this lovely layout is..... I always admire adults who enjoy Halloween so much that they will dress the part and include their spouses! I love the purples of this layout and how Joy incorporated the purple paper to match her cloak in the photo! The color combination of this layout is very eye catching, the distressing of the photo mats really adds to the dark feel of this layout! I adore the metal looking letters of the title and how they tie into her headpiece. Beautiful layout to compliment such a beautiful photo!.. Here is Joy's lovely layout. Congratulations Joy!!

White Magic
As I put January's kit together, I thought of snow, but I didn't want your average winter kit, so I thought why not White Magic?!
This month's kit is all about color. I know, this is supposed to be Scraps of Darkness, and this kit looks more like Scraps of Lightness! Well, 6 of the double sided patterned papers from Pink Paislee's Parisian Anthology Collection were made to alter and color! They have special ink resist designs on the front and a coordinating pattern on the back. 4 more papers from Websters Pages' Hollywood Vogue collection make this a magical kit! Also included are some fabulous items to embellish your layouts, including our signature pin from Craftysprinkles and products from Prima, Dusty Attic, Petaloo, Basic Grey, and more.
Of course, we have some wonderful Add-On kits to coordinate with this kit, you can see them on our main site: Scraps of Darkness
Mandy, aka Craftysprinkles, has given us another beautiful sketch to go along with the kit:
Please be sure to visit our Designers' blogs to see what they've done with this kit! You can find the links to all of them in the side bar on the right.
I also wanted to let you know about an awesome Photoshop tutorial Designer Lisa Novogrodski did for this kit. You can find the tutorial here. Lisa does a wonderful job explaining how to use textures on your photos in this tutorial! Here's what she did with the photo she was working on:
And be on the lookout next week for another fabulous tutorial by Designer Nancy Hanttula!
Have a great scrappy weekend!

Meet our new Sketch Artist!
You met her as our December Guest Designer, now meet her as our new Sketch Artist!
I am so thrilled to announce that Charlotte Jenkins, aka Suepup, is now our new permanent Sketch Artist. She will begin doing our sketches with our February kit. Charlotte does such beautiful sketches, I am sure you will find much inspiration in those she does for Scraps of Darkness!
I am Charlotte, AKA Suepup in the virtal world. I live in central Ohio, born and raised in the heart of an Appalachian coal mining town. I live with my husband, a Doberman Pincher, a Rottweiler and a Pharoah
hound/Doberman mix. I am addicted to art and crafting!. My current loves are scrapbooking, mixed media, photography and printmaking.
I guess my creative journey began as a young child, when I began oil painting, drawing with pastels and beading. As a child, and still do, love anything that is rusted, weathered and distressed. I find beauty in things most people find ugly or consider junk. I am fairly new to scrapbooking and had been very reluctant to try the "art". For many years, I thought scrapbooking was only a craft, and not art. I now laugh at that thought, I was so wrong. A couple years ago, one of my friends dared me to just scrap one page. Well I did, and now I'm addicted. I find scrapbooking is a way to create smaller pieces of mixed media artwork! I love Distressed, Steampunk, Shabby Chic and Grunge style scrapbooking. I consider myself an artist rather than a crafter. I often find that my scrapbooking style does not fit the traditional scrapper. I have a passion for Modern and Renaissance Art. My favorite artist is Kathe Kollwitz, a German Expressionist whose work expresses empathy for the less fortunate, embraces the victims of poverty, hunger, death and war during the first half of the 20th century. I am also addicted to the Tudor and Edwardian era, I really any time period of great social change.
I am THRILLED and feel SO BLESSED to be Scraps of Darkness' Sketch Artist. I have been so inspired by all of the wonderful talent surrounding Scraps of Darkness.
