May's Guest Designer

With the reveal of our May kit approaching quickly, I wanted to introduce you to our talented Guest Designer for May, Joy Jarvis.  Joy subscribes to our kits, and has done some really fabulous work with them, and we just wanted to show off her beautiful work!  Be sure to stop by our gallery tomorrow to see the wonderful layouts she and the Design Team have created with the May kit!

Meet Joy:

First, I’m so blessed to be married to the most amazing man who is so supportive of my scrapbooking obsession.  We live in NE Ohio, and I have a daughter who is 19.  I work full-time for a specialty-chemicals company in their marketing/sales department.  I started scrapbooking 9 years ago and am always looking for innovative, new techniques.  I love dark colors, dramatic contrasts, shabby chic, vintage, and grunge styles.  I'm addicted to inking, distressing, spray mists, cutting, and stamping.  I joined Scraps of Darkness last year after seeing all the talent and beautiful artwork the Design Team does here.  And the kits, well, they speak for themselves!  Melinda does a fabulous job of coordinating items that inspire and challenge.  My creativity definitely stepped up after joining here, and I love being part of the fun forum as well!  I’m honored to be chosen as a guest designer this month, and I hope you enjoy what I’ve done with this kit.  For details on my layouts, please visit my blog:  http://www.myscraptuary.blogspot.com/

April Layout of The Month!

As I was looking at all the layouts done in April by our subscriber's, this one just jumped out at me...

Mind...Body...Spirit by Christine Motter
Not only is the design fabulous, but the techniques and symbolism on this layout are just amazing!
Christine did this layout for our Skeletons in the Closet Challenge, which was to scrap "What defines you?".

Most of this is symbolic, but overall, and I think this is true with anyone-a person is defined by their mind, body and spirit. This pic is of me about a year and a half ago. I'm a lot more fluffy at the moment-still have lotsa baby weight to lose. I did a ton of inking-my first time using resist paper-that was a ton of fun. I glimmer glammed my tree, but it's hard to see in this pic. Looks pretty sweet IRL. Did a lil glimmer misting on my sun and my butterflies. Put a lil crackle paint on my DA skull which I bought in the Scraps of Darkness store. The birds up in the corner are a Tim Holtz stamp... Did all my cutting with my cricut.

This layout is just wonderful in so many ways, Christine.  Congratulations!

The Big Announcement!

I'd like to thank everybody that submitted their work for our Spring DT Call. We had so many wonderful submissions, and it was super hard to narrow it down to just two!

Now for the good part - please help me welcome Cheryl Casas and Renea Harrison to the Scraps of Darkness Design Team!

Cheryl Casas
Hello Darksiders!  For those of you who don't know me, my name is Cheryl (C Mom Go).  I am 31 years old, married to my superman (Peter), with 3 kiddos (Jasmine 11, Gisselle 9 and Andrew 6) and I work as a massage therapist.  I have been scrapping for over a year now and it is my passion!  I am so thankful for finding this love of mine.  It really gives me the sense of calm that I often need.  Plus, I have been blessed with meeting so many wonderful people that I am forever grateful.  I love alternative pages, especially dark ones.  I like to try new techniques and I try to be as unique as possible on every layout.  I have been stalking Scraps of Darkness for quite a long time now and I am ecstatic to be part of the Design Team!!!

Renea Harrison
A BIG "hello" to all of my Scraps Of Darkness friends.  My name is Renea a.k.a. Reneabouquets in the virtual world. I am just beyond excited to be a member of the Scraps Of Darkness Design Team, and I can't thank Melinda enough for giving me this wonderful opportunity!!  I don't just love scrapbooking, I am passionate about it.  I love every aspect of this amazing multi-media art.
The art of the creation itself, from taking the design in my head and getting it out onto the paper, to the social aspect of it. I love sharing what I know, and learning what others share. I love talking about it, as well as encouraging others to take that leap and dive right in. I have quickly become a forum junky and I love the sisterhood aspect of all who share in this experience. My biggest hope is that my addiction is contagious and that each and every one of you catch it!

I would also like to shout out a thanks to both my husband and son. They not only put up with my scrapbook insanity, but incourage me to pursue my passion. I have been married to my husband for over 21 years, and he has always been, not only the love of my life, but my biggest supporter in all aspects of my life. We have built a wonderful life together, and have raised an amazing son. God has definitely blessed me beyond anything I could have imagined!
So, grab some paper, your favorite medium and some embellies, and join me on this exciting journey. I can't wait to see what you create with these gorgeous kits and hope that you find not only beauty, but a little inspiration in what I create!

I'd also to say thank you to Manda for all the fabulous layouts you've done for SOD. Manda has decided not to remain on the Design Team so that she  can spend more time with her family and enjoy scrapping without deadlines. We'll miss having you on the team!

And Yay!  I am so excited to announce that Celina Matthews has agreed to stay with SOD, she is our new Mistress of Mayhem!!!

Cheryl's doing a nice little give-away on her blog to celebrate joining the Design Team, so be sure to stop by her blog and enter!  Cheryl's Blog

Reveal Day!

Yes, my favorite day of the month!  Why, you ask?  Because I get to see all the beautiful work our Design Team has done with the latest kit, which revealed today!  Be sure to check out all of their blogs to see their gorgeous creations - you can find the links to them in the sidebar.

This month's kit is called Foundations - and I came up with the name of the kit from a quote I love:

"Do not worry if you have built your castles in the air. They are where they should be. Now put the foundations under them."
    -Henry David Thoreau

So enough chatter from me!  Here is the newest Scraps of Darkness Kit for April:

Foundations - April Scraps of Darkness Kit
The kit features the new Bo Bunny Timepiece line, and let me tell you, these papers are even more gorgeous in person than they are in the pictures!  The kit also includes goodies from Tim Holtz, ZVA, and the always gorgeous pin from Craftysprinkles, as well as some fun things like burlap, twine, and Spanish moss.

And our two signature add ons:

Foundations Color Add On

April Romance Add On
And our coordinating cardstock add on:

As always, our extremely talented sketch artist, Charlotte aka Suepup, created a gorgeous sketch for the kit:

Again, be sure to check out our Design Team members' blogs, to see all the eye candy they've created to inspire you, and have an awesome, scrappy weekend!

Layout of the Month - March

Each month, we choose one layout from our gallery to win Layout of the Month.  This is the layout that caught my eye from the layouts uploaded during the month of February:

Just Smile by Ashley Van Etten
The layout I chose for March is Just Smile, by Ashley Van Etten.  Her misting is amazing, the design is wonderful, and I just love that pic - she chose the perfect title!

Congratulations, Ashley, it's a beautiful layout!
