We have a new Designer!

I am tickled pink (yes, I said pink - even tho it is NOT one of my favorite colors, lol) to announce that Jennifer Snyder has joined the SOD Design Team!  You may know Jennifer as jrabs, and you may also recognize her as a Guest Designer for us with the June kit.  Jennifer always wows me with her work, and her work with the June kit was no different.

So without further delay, meet Jennifer:

My name is Jennifer Snyder or JRABS.  I've been scrapping for several years but really started working on technique and detail within the 18 months.  I love to start my day off really really early scrapping - like 4:30am  early.    This helps me prepare for my day-job which is far less creative and probably would bore you to tears.  I work in the field of natural gas and electricity, so yep - I can tell a few of you are already snoring.    Let's play it safe and just talk scrapping.  I am a gal who loves the whole tangible aspect of our beloved craft, from the pretty papers to hoarding ribbons and trims.

My Husband , of only a few short, sweet years has been a great support for my scrapping passion.  He never says anything when the boxes arrive in the mail, or when I come through the door with a shopping bag.  He does roll his eyes though.

I have found scrapping to be a hobby that can keep your mind active, youthful and refreshed.

Welcome to Scraps of Darkness, Jennifer, I know we will all enjoy seeing your gorgeous creations!

June's Guest Designers

This month we have not one, but TWO talented Guest Designers to inspire you!

Jennifer Snyder, aka JRABS, has been inspiring me with her gorgeous layouts for some time now, and if you haven't seen her work before, be sure to stop by our gallery on Reveal Day (tomorrow!), to see some of her work, because I guarantee you won't be disappointed with what she's done with our June kit.

Terra Serrano is fairly new to scrapbooking, but she has been very involved in crafting with stamps, and is, in fact, co-owner of Smeared Ink, a digital and rubber stamp company with a dark side to their designs.  Terra has a very edgy style, and will be sharing inspiration over the next few weeks.

Terra Serrano
I have just recently started scrapbooking, although I have been a rubber stamper for 12+ years now. I am a cardmaker, mixed media artist, and I LOVE to alter items. I am just now trying to incorporate some of the techniques I have learned through my other art into scrapbooking.
My work tends to be somewhat, er, different than most :). My style ranges from Grungy-Vintage to Edgy to Dark, with some cutesy stuff thrown in for good measure. I love using paint and materials that you wouldn't normally associate with paper crafts; I adore metal and found objects, and can sometimes be found in my studio (fancy name for my garage) with a blow torch or dremmel tool in hand to industrialize my art. I LOVE power tools!! I'm looking forward to really embracing scrapbooking in my own way.
I co-own my own rubber stamp company called Smeared Ink, and run an online forum called Smeared and Smudged that is dedicated to the grungier, darker side of papercrafting and rubber stamping.
At home I have a loving husband, four fabulous children, a dog named Zombie, and seven pet rats who are awesome! I am a bellydancer, I love to read and garden, and I adore kids!

Jennifer and Terra, I'm thrilled you are Guest Designing for us this month, and can't wait to see your work!

May Layout of the Month!

Picking out just one page a month for the Layout of the Month is a difficult task! All the pages posted in the Scraps of Darkness Galleries are amazing and so creative and choosing between them is agony.

For May, I chose Shh by QT. This deceptively simple layout creates such a soft feeling perfect for this baby picture. The misting and stamping create wonderful layers of texture and color and the papers are a beautiful backdrop for the contrasting corrugated cardboard. The colors are cool and vibrant but not overpowering and the painted crane is an awesome addition over the small script of words.
This is such a sweet and enchanting page, QT! Congratulations!
